Why You Need an Ah So

An Ah So is a tool for pulling the cork out of a bottle of wine. It has two prongs, one longer than the other. It is a smart wine gadget that every wine drinker will need to use on occasion.

The Ah So Wine Opener

The Ah So is a “must” for anyone who drinks wine regularly. There will be times when a regular corkscrew is not going to do the job of removing the cork from the wine bottle.

If you have a wine that is ten years or older, you should use an Ah So to open the wine. All corks are going to degrade over time. Remember, cork comes from living tissue just under the bark of a tree. It is an organic product. The last thing you want to do with your cherished bottle of wine is get cork particles in the wine.

Even with some recent vintages, an Ah So is a better choice for pulling the cork out of the bottle. Sometimes a cork will break in half and the Ah So can help. I once purchased a case of wine at a discount from a winemaker because a regular corkscrew would not work on the very tight corks. In this instance, the only way to get the cork dislodged and pulled from the bottle was with the Ah So.

Another reason why a wine lover may want to use an Ah So is that the entire cork remains undamaged and looks very cool next to a bottle of wine. Some wine lovers collect corks and make artsy objects from perfect corks.
