Wines under $20 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100

This statement may be shocking to the casual wine consumer, but not to the seasoned bargain wine sleuths. There are many outstanding wines under $20 that can hold up to the best wines in the world. Proof, the Wine Spectator selected several wines under $20 for their Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines for 2018. Attention Wine Snobs: Even a few “Supermarket Wines” are on the list.

The Wine Spectator reviews more than 15,000 wines a year. Of those, about one-third received 90-Point ratings. The Wine Spectator staff included only the 90-Point-rated wines in selecting the top 100 wines. The December 4th issue includes the Top 100 Wines of 2018 and will be on the magazine shelves on December 4th.

I went through the list online and have posted the wines you should be able to find in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Some wines on the Top 100 list may not be on the wine shelves at this time. Wineries send in their samples well before they release the wines to the consumer market.

  1. At the Foster City Costco is wine number 67, the Pinot Grigio. The cost is $11.99. We will try it soon. We opened wine number 68, the Louis Jadot Burgundy. We were disappointed in the wine. Just okay!
