Two Worthy Zinfandels at Costco

Old Vine Zinfandel

Looking for Zinfandels at Costco

Costco has plenty of choices for Zinfandel wines and ones from several California wine regions. In this wine review, we have two Costco Zinfandels to recommend. They are currently at our local Costco in San Mateo. One Zinfandel is from Sonoma County and the other from the Sierra Foothills in Amador County. A big boy Zinfandel VS a mellow Zinfandel.

2015 Kirkland Zinfandel Old Vine

2015 Kirkland Zinfandel Old Vine – Sonoma County

The Kirkland Old Vine Zinfandel is a tasty Sonoma Zin with all the typical attributes in a good Zin including blackberry and marionberry. The fruit gushes from the glass.  The Kirkland Zin is medium- -to-full bodied with lots of layers. At $9.99 the Kirkland Zin is way better than other commercial wines you see at $15 or more. The Kirkland Old Vine Zin improves and becomes more intense at it sits in the glass and the bottle. Next bottle, I will decant 30 to 60 minutes before drinking. The alcohol is 15.5, and there is a slight bit of heat, but it is not over ripe — (no prune aromas).  I am most impressed with the wine. It’s a fantastic barbeque wine.  My score 89/90 because it is just damn good wine.

2014 Bella Grace Amador Zinfandel – $13.99 Reviewed by Joe

Bella Grace Amador Zinfandel

Bella Grace Amador Zinfandel

Bella Grace Vineyards is one of the hot newcomers in Amador County. Bella Grace owner and winemaker, Michael Havill, is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the top female winemakers in California. The Bella Grace Zinfandel is one classy Zinfandel. The Bella Grace Amador is my style of Zin, reserved and restrained. There are no raisins or prune characteristics in this lovely wine. It is mellow and medium bodied with light fruit flavors. It is an excellent choice for pairing with tomato base pizza and pasta. A plentiful minestrone soup will also hit the spot with the Bella Grace Amador Zinfandel. Let the Bella Grace Zinfandel breathe for an hour or decant the wine. It will open and become more enjoyable. 88 Points. If you have not visited Amador County wine country, you are missing out. It is laid back, relaxed, and beautiful. Check out Amador Wine Trails.

Costco has many choices for Zinfandel wine. Quivira,  St. Francis, Seghesio, Buehler and more. Have you tried any Zinfandel wines at Costco that you can recommend? Tell us your favorite Costco Zinfandel in the comment section.

The 2014 Seghesio is great but I can’t find it at the NJ Costco

    • I would think that the limited production of the Seghesio Sonoma wine prevents it from being widely available. Did you try wine-searcher.com? Plug in your Zipcode and you should be able to find a store nearby that carries this lovely Zinfandel.
