Two wines to buy at Costco

2021 Riviera Wine Company Mélange Blanc $12.99

The 2021 Riviera Wine Company Mélange Blanc is a beautifully-balanced blend of four Rhone white wine grapes. The blend is Grenache Blanc 56%, Viognier 16%, Marsanne 16%, and Roussanne 12%.
The winemaker and proprietor is Doug Margerum, a pioneer winemaker in the Santa Barbara wine region.

Their website states, “With years of winemaking and blending expertise, Doug launched Riviera Wine Company in 2020, taking advantage of his access to grapes from exclusive vineyards to create blends that showcase the best of the area. The goal being to deliver great value premium wines”

The Rivera Wine Company Mélange Blanc has a beautiful floral and stone fruit aroma. The mouthfeel is generous, with complexity from the four Rhone white grapes. So, the next time you think of Chardonnay for a dinner meal, open the Rivera Wine Company Mélange Blanc instead.

The Rivera Wine Company Mélange Blanc sells for $24 on the winery’s online wine shop. At Costco, the price is $16.99, but a $4 rebate comes at check out. That is a deal at almost 50% off the list price. My rating is 90 points.

2020 Saint Cosme Cotes-Du-Rhone $11.99

The 2020 Saint Cosme Cotes-Du-Rhone is from vineyards in the famous Gigondas area of the Rhone Valley. Usually, a wine from Southern Rhone is a blend, but in this case it is 100% Syrah. It is medium bodied, with a lovely texture and exciting taste. The wine does not overpower, as do many domestic Syrah wines. This wine is a gentle Syrah; but delivers enough flavor to match many foods. It’s a perfect match with grilled Baby back ribs, rotisserie chicken, or pork chops.

The Wine Spectator awards 90 points to the 2020 Saint Cosme Cotes-Du-Rhone, and I go along with the rating. I went back to Costco and purchased more. It is a great mid-week wine. This wine is also at KL Wines, but the price is $15.99.
