If you read my previous post on BevMo compared to Total Wine, you know I did some wine shopping at Total Wine. Over the past two weeks, I sampled six wines I purchased from Total Wine and I found two I can recommend as Best Buy Wines. One is an old favorite and the other a White Bordeaux discovery
Evodia Garnacha – $7.99 Total Wine

About the Evodia Old Vine Garnacha
The Evodia 2016 is a gorgeous Garnacha from the Catalunya region of Spain. Evodia is a joint project between famous wine importer Eric Solomon and winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage. We have tasted many wines by these two, and the are always excellent wines.
The Evodia is from vines 40 to 100 years old. We have enjoyed previous vintages of Evodia, often finding the wine at Costco and KL Wines. Kl Wines recently sold out of the 2016 Evodia in short order, selling at $9.99 a bottle. Total Wine has a limited supply at Bridgepoint in San Mateo.
The aroma, taste, and finish are excellent. We find a combination of red and dark fruit, and some spice to add to the mix. It is balanced and will go nicely with many foods. Jeb Dunnuck goes with 91 Points; we say 89 Points and a Best Buy Wine at $8. See Evodia Tech Sheet.
The Evodia is a light enough red to have with grilled Salmon and chicken dishes, but red meat will also pair well. We decided that our dinner of tacos with a light spicy touch was the perfect time to open the Evodia.
Chateau Tour De Bonnet

About the Chateau De Bonnet – White Bordeaux
The Chateau Tour De Bonnet is a White Bordeaux wine. Only 7% of wines produced in Bordeaux are white wines. My guess is that most of our readers have not tried a White Bordeaux wine. You are missing out. White Bordeaux are usually blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Sometimes other white grapes are added to the blend. White Bordeaux wines are bright, tropical, and refreshing wines.
The Chateau Tour De Bonnet is a blend 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon, and 10% Muscadelle. This White Burgundy is one of Total Wine’s Winery Direct program. I paid $13.49 for it, minus a discount of 10% because I purchased six or more wines. The winemaker is the legendary Andre Lurton.

The Chateau Tour De Bonnet has beautiful aroma, and tropical plus slight citrus flavors. The style is more restrained than New Zealand or California Sauvignon Blanc wines that have too much citrus and gooseberry character. It makes for a fabulous aperitif wine and is delicious with seafood and fish dishes. It is also a terrific picnic wine.
James Sucking likes the Chateau Tour De Bonnet at 91 Points. I go with 89 points. If you would like to know more about White Bordeaux, see this post on our blind tasting of White Bordeaux wines.
