Ron Rubin Pinot Gris Russian River Valley

2016 Ron Rubin Pinot Gris Russian River Valley

I discovered this wine at the Costco Store in Foster City. It is from a fairly new producer, Ron Rubin Winery, and from vineyards in the Russian River Valley AVA in Sonoma County. The Russian River Valley is a cool-climate grape growing area. The wines from this region are mainly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Pinot Gris is seldom grown in the Russian River Valley. This is because Pinot Noir grapes and Chardonnay grapes provide a much bigger payout for growers and wineries. When I spotted the Ron Rubin Pinot Gris, along with price tag of $13.99, I had to give it a try.

These Pinot Gris grapes are from vines near Sebastopol. The Petaluma Gap brings fog, wind, and cold temperatures during the Summer to this Pinot Gris Vineyard. From the Ron Rubin Website: “This gives the grapes an extremely long and slow maturation period, preventing high sugar concentration or development of strong color in the skins. The extremely cool conditions mean that the grapes ripen well into the end of September, and when picked in the early morning hours just before sunrise, they arrive at the winery cold and ready for gentle pressing.”

The Ron Rubin Pinot Gris has many qualities to savor. The aroma is tropical, with pear enticing the palette. The acidity is perfect. The wine is produced in stainless steel but, nonetheless, the mouthfeel is generous. The aftertaste is more than most Pinto Gris offer. There are plenty of foods that will be delightful with this ample Pinot Gris: Cheese, sandwiches, seafood, salads, and chicken dishes. It is a delightful white wine, and I highly recommend it as an alternative to the everyday fare of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The alcohol is 13.2%.  Liven up your white wine drinking with the Ron Rubin Pinot Gris. 90 Points is my take on the wine, and I will purchase more this coming week at Costco.

I found your Ron Ruler Pinot Gris at grocery outlet in Redwood City. I loved it and went back to buy more but it was sold out. Is grocery outlet going to receive more?
