2017 Raeburn Russian River Valley Chardonnay

This is the first time I have tried a Raeburn wine. I am very pleased I did. I discovered this excellent Chardonnay at my local Safeway store. It sells for $13.99 at the six-pack sale price. Wine-Searcher-Com shows that the wine is available at these stores: The Wine Club in San Francisco for $12.94, K&L Wines for $16.95, and some Total Wine shops for $16.99.

I like the balance of the wine and the gentle but wonderful fruit character of apples and pear. It has just the right amount of oak that adds to the elements of the wine. I also find the wine very refreshing.

Chardonnay comes in many styles. It can be stainless-steel fermented and aged (no oak). At the opposite end, it can be full malolactic fermentation and oak-barrel aging that gives a creamy, buttery, and oaky Chardonnay. The Raeburn Chardonnay is in the middle of this spectrum.

Enjoy this wine as an aperitif or a dinner wine. Pair it with cheese, fish, and roasted chicken. James Suckling rates the Raeburn Russian River Chardonnay at 90 Points. Janelle is a big fan of Chardonnay, and she agrees that the wine deserves 90 Points.

Columbia Crest Cabernet Grand Estates 2016

Forbes Magazine in a recent article touts the Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Estates 2016 as the best Cabernet Sauvignon under $10. That’s good enough for me to give it a try. We have reviewed the 2014 and the 2013, giving them high marks, so this 2016 should be no exception. Look for it at Trader Joe’s. Click to see article.

We just picked up a bottle of this vintage at our local Costco. We will see if it is as good as the previous vintage, the 2016 Wine of Substance.
