Pedroncelli in Geyserville scores again with Friends White & Friends Red

Geyserville, just 10 minutes north of Healdsburg, is where the Pedroncelli winery has been operating since 1927. It is on the eastern side of the Dry Creek Valley.  I have reviewed the previous two vintages of the Pedroncelli Friends White & Friends Red, and in this article we review the latest vintages of the Friends Wine. The story at the family-owned Pedroncelli is that a few years back the family had some extra red wine around and blended the wine.  Then they had a big party for family and friends. Everyone seemed to love the wine, and thus was born the Friends Red Wine. Later came the Friends White, one my favorite picnic wines.

The Pedroncelli Friends White 2014

Pedroncelli Friends White 2014 – Weimax $9.99

As was the last vintage, the Friends White is a blend of Gerwurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, but neither the back label nor the Pedroncelli tech sheet tells us the exact blend. I think it is more S.B. than Gerwurztraminer. This wine is certainly good enough to offer to your friends. It is light, crisp and refreshing. There are no flaws to this wine, just easy drinking. I think it is best for outdoor fare on warm days. It’s delicious and a fun wine. 88 Points.

Pedroncelli Friends Red 2013 – Weimax $9.99

This is a blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Overall, a very nice- tasting red wine. It’s balanced and moderate in style. I would like more complexity in the wine but, at $10 a pop, it is a very worthy red wine. Bring this over to a friend’s house and no one will complain. 88 Points.  Another Pedroncelli wine you might try is the Mother Clone Zinfandel. It sells for $13.99 at Weimax and is a very nice choice. The Zinfandel is from a 26-year-old vineyard in which the vines have been propagated from a nearby 100-year-old Zinfandel plot.

We enjoy visiting the Pedroncelli tasting room whenever we are in Geyserville. Oh, that’s right, we will be in Geyserville this week. What a coincidence! You can buy the wines from Pedroncelli but, as it turns out, Weimax offers a much better deal on these wines.
