Pine Ridge 2013 Chenin Blanc / Viognier
Learn about Viognier
Viognier is a grape originally grown in the Northern Rhone Valley. It has perhaps become more popular in California. Viognier is a full-bodied wine with wonderful aromatic characteristics. Viognier has become a popular substitute for Chardonnay. Viognier can be made in stainless tanks, giving it more of its natural fruit flavors, or it can be aged and fermented in oak barrels. If it undergoes malolactic fermentation, the wine becomes more full-bodied. Viognier is grown widely in the Sierra Foothills and in the Paso Robles wine region.
