Learn about Malbec
Malbec is the flagship grape of Argentina, but the grape originated in France. Malbec is one of the five red Bordeaux grapes. In Argentina, the grape thrives in the area of Mendoza. A wide range of wineries in Argentina produce a value-priced Malbec in the $10-to-$20 dollar range. Malbec from Argentina is one of the true wine values for the wine bargain consumer. The price to quality ratio is very high. Argentine Malbec is a Best Buy Wine.
Character of Malbec
Malbec wines are medium-to-heavy bodied with a dark color and flavors of black cherry, strawberry and plum. Acidity is usually well balanced. Tannins tend to be soft. Several California wineries produce a 100% Malbec, but it is far different from Argentina’s Malbec. It is bigger in body and bigger in price.
