It is always nice to find a decent Cabernet Sauvignon from California for under $20. The J. Lohr from Paso Robles is just that wine. We reviewed the 2016 vintage in March of 2019.

J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

From the family-owned J Lohr winery in Paso Robles comes this tasty Cabernet Sauvignon 2017. The Wine Enthusiast rates it “Editor’s Choice” and 90 Points.

The wine has ample aroma, a rounded mouthfeel with generous flavors of dark fruit. We love the lingering finish of this wine. We like the balance, smooth and gentle on the palate. Although aged in American oak barrels for a year, the oak is subtle. There are no intense vanilla flavors, as is often the case in wine aged in American oak. I rate this cab at an easy 89 Points.

The J Lohr Winery says pair this with wild mushroom risotto or herbed crusted rack of lamb with creamy polenta. The cool factor here is that J Lohr provides the recipes on their Website. I think this wine is a perfect match with a juicy hamburger hot off the grill.

The 2017 J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 5% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, and 1% Syrah. The wine was aged in American oak barrels for 12 months.

The 2017 J Lohr Seven Oaks Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is also at Trader Joe’s for $12.99 and at K&L Wines for $14.95. At the J Lohr Winery online wine store, the price is $17. Check the Wine-Searcher for wine stores near you that carry the J. Lohr.
