Indómito is Fantastico

2019 Kaiken Indómito Malbec

At Costco for $12.99 and KL Wines for $17.99, this a totally delicious Malbec wine. I recently tasted some red blends costing $30 to $50, and none could hold a candle to the beautiful qualities of the 2019 Kaiken Indómito. I’m not the only one that likes this wine; how about a 96-Point rating from Decanter, the prestigious U.K. publication? Wine critic James Suckling rates the Indómito at 90 Points.

The Kaiken winery is in the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. Kaiken is the sister winery of the famous Montes winery of Chile. Legendary Montes winemaker, Aurelio Montes, created the Kaiken winery in Argentina to take advantage of the elevation and dry conditions of the eastern side of the Andes Mountains. Since 2000, the Kaiken winery has been making delicious wines using sustainable farming.

Tasting notes on 2019 Kaiken Indómito Malbec

Indómito is a beauty of a Malbec. It has rich fruit flavors and a generous finish. We get notes of blueberry and plum, with a balance of tannins and acidity.  The wine is medium bodied, but has richness to savor in each mouthful. The wine has a lovely softness on the palate. I like it with roasted chicken and any red meat on the grill. A big, fat ribeye in a cast iron pan on the stove top is also a top-notch choice. Better yet, pair the Kaiken Malbec with Argentine empanadas.

Mike’s Pick

Just about when we were ready to publish the Indómito article, Vintage Taster Mike Beltran blasted this alert on a wine he likes very much at KL Wines.

2020 Domaine la Garrigue “Cuvée Romaine” Côtes-du-Rhône

I purchased the 2020 Domaine la Garrigue “Cuvée Romaine” Côtes-du-Rhône at KL Wines for $15.99, and it is a wonderful wine.  The taste is very fruit forward with a rich color.  The wine is a Grenache and Syrah blend with an uplifting mouth feel. Its medium-plus body makes it a match for many food groups.  Eric Solomon imports the Domaine la Garrique. His European Cellars always imports winning wines. I rate it at 89 points and a solid dollar value.

Domaine la Garrigue – Delicious
