Excellent Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc for $11

There are plenty of Sauvignon Blanc wines to choose from at your local Supermarket and wine shop. The Dry Creek Valley and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc are the most popular. Here is one from the Napa Valley that is a great value. It is 2015 Markham Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. This is produced in mass quantities, but that does not take away from the quality of this bargain Sauvignon Blanc. We have recently touted several Sauvignon Blanc wines including the Dry Creek Valley Vineyards Fume Blanc and the  Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc

markham.sauvignon-blanc-safewayThe best deal for the Markham Sauvignon Blanc wine is at the Safeway. Depending on the week, if you buy six, mix-or-match, you can get the Markham S.B. for as little as $9.89. Earlier this week I paid $10.79 for the six-pack price. The average price for this wine on Wine-Searcher.com is $14. The Markham online wine shop lists it at $16. That’s proof positive that the Safeway price is an awesome deal. The Markham tech sheet indicates this wine is 92% Sauvignon Blanc and 8% Semillon. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel and then in neutral oak for 2.5 months. Markham Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s most popular wineries. It is located in the St. Helena AVA, but they own many vineyards in the Napa Valley and purchase many grapes in the Valley. The Sauvignon Blanc comes from a vineyard at the Northern end of the Valley.

Food Pairing with the Markham Sauvignon Blanc 2015

The Markham S.B., like any balanced Sauvignon Blanc, can be paired with a variety of light foods, especially ones with an acidic base. I like a fried Petrale Sole with a tartar sauce with lots of lemon flavor. Fried Calamari is also a wonderful choice. I am also thinking of a shrimp salad.  Any pairing thoughts you might have, please list in the comment section.
