Delicious California Malbec

2015 Shannon Reserve Malbec

I rarely buy domestic Malbec. It is usually too expensive and not as good as Malbec from Argentina. In the past, I have reviewed many wonderful Argentine Malbec wines on GoodCheapVino. Most of these Argentine Malbec wines are available for under $15. The Shannon Reserve Malbec at this price is just a fantastic Best Buy Wine. It is a little more robust than a typical Malbec from Argentina, but very much worth a purchase at this terrific price point.

The 2015 Shannon Reserve is at Costco stores for a price of $11.99. The regular Costco price is $17.99, but currently, a $6 rebate when you check out. A look at the Shannon online Website shows this wine selling for $38. Wine.com has it for $22.99.

Costco must have a huge supply – No limit and sale ends on 9/29/19

2015 Shannon Reserve Malbec Tasting Notes

The 2015 Shannon Reserve Malbec is as good as any California Malbec I have tasted. The aroma is plentiful, and the taste is generous but smooth on the palate. I like the abundant blueberry fruit and the subtle herb notes. The finish is quite lengthy. Shannon Malbec is 14.9% alcohol but drinks lighter. The Malbec was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. I rate it 89 Points.

Think red meat dishes on the grill with the Shannon Reserve Malbec. Pork ribs, hamburgers, and sausages will love this wine.

The Shannon vineyards and winery are in Lake County. The elevation of the vineyards is as high as 2000 feet.
