Daou Sauvignon Blanc

Crisp and delicious Daou Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc

Yes, it is officially Spring, and things will get better. Wine is always a good way to mellow the strains of the day. The Daou Sauvignon Blanc is a terrific choice for fresh spring days, a delicious and refreshing white wine.

We discovered this wine on a recent trip to Paso Robles. Little did we know that this trip would be our last wine country excursion for the foreseeable future. We ordered a glass of the Daou Sauvignon Blanc in the lounge at the Paso Robles Inn. We like the style, the freshness, and the pleasant floral aromas. This is Daou’s first attempt at a Sauvignon Blanc, and they hit the mark.

The Wine Enthusiast rates the Daou S.B. 92 Points and Editor’s Choice. We go with 90 points and one of the better-tasting Sauvignon Blanc wines we have tasted recently. This is not a New Zealand-style S.B. It is more mellow and reserved. See Types of Sauvignon Blanc.

If you are in the Paso Robles area, the local Albertson’s market has a very extensive inventory of local wines at prices lower than what the wineries sell out of their tasting rooms. The price at Albertson’s for the Daou S.B. is $14.99; it is $17 at the winery. KL Wines carries if for $15.99. Check Wine-Searcher.com or 1000corks.com to find other wine shops that carry this Sauvignon Blanc.

We stopped in at the Daou tasting room atop Daou Mountain. The entire set-up if very upscale and much like the top Napa Valley wineries. We did not taste ($40 a person), but we did take in the view and the gardens. Thanks to our dear friend Nancy for capturing the beautiful setting at Daou.

Wineries are hurting

Wineries are struggling and now, if you can, is an excellent time to support your favorite wineries. Many are offering very inexpensive shipping and discounts on wine. Shop online at your favorite winery. We are shopping at Navarro Vineyards in the Anderson Valley. We love their Alsatian-style white wines. We’ll also be ordering delicious red wines from Cedarville in El Dorado County.

Virtual Wine Tasting is trending and it might be a fun thing to do now that we are isolating ourselves at home. Virtual Wine Tasting works like this: The winery will ship a set of wines to your home. When the package is purchased, a time is set for all to tune into the virtual tasting room using Zoom, Google Hangouts, and live video streaming systems. The winemaker or a expert at the winery will lead the experience. Pour yourself a glass of the wine and sit back and enjoy the conversation. Check out this list of wineries that are offering Virtual Wine Tasting. We hope Virtual Wine Tasting will be successful and enable wineries to survive the closure of their tasting rooms to visitors.
