2019 Condado De Haza – Ribera del Duero

From the Ribero del Duero comes this beautiful robust 100% Tempranillo wine. The price at Costco is $14.99. Wine-Searcher.com indicates the average price for this wine at other wine shops is $24. I purchased this wine at the Redwood City Costco. A good inventory was on hand.

Condado De Haza is one of the four wineries belonging to the family of the late pioneering Spanish winemaker Alejandro Fernandez. He revolutionized Spain’s Ribera del Duero region creating one of the most iconic names in Spanish wines, Pasquera. He died in 2021 but his legend will long live on.

Bold and delicious wine from Familia Alejandro Fernandez.

Read the Label

Condado De Haza is the name of the winery and the wine. Ribera del Duero is the wine region. Crianza is a legal aging term required on a Spanish wine label. Crianza requires that the wine be aged in the barrel for 12 months, and in the bottle for 12 months, before it goes to market. 2019 is the harvest date.

Tasting Notes

The aroma and flavors flow abundantly throughout, from the first sniff to the final swallow and finish. The wine is complex, and an interesting wine to savor. Each sip brings something different to ponder. The dark fruit flavors are deep, the tannins just right.  The Condado De Haza is robust, but not overbearing. It is a delightful wine, and one delicious enough for me to buy additional bottles. James Suckling states this wine will be even better with another year of aging. Food Pairings

If you enjoy red meat dishes, the Condado De Haza is a great choice. From sausages to ribeyes, this wine will jolt the taste buds. Roasting a chicken? Yes, to the Condado. Pasta Bolognese is another wonderful match.

Ribera del Duero

Janelle and I spent several days touring the Ribera del Duero region in 2007. The region in September is hot and dry. The towns along the stretch of Bodegas (wineries) offer wonderful Spanish foods and wines. The Spanish people are very friendly and welcoming.
