2015 Bodegas LAN Reserva $16.99

I don’t often shop for wine at Whole Foods grocery; the prices are generally lower elsewhere. But this is where I found the 2015 Bodegas LAN Reserva. At $16.99, the wine price is in my ballpark.  Plus, the 2015 Bodegas LAN Reserva at Whole Foods comes with a nifty waiter’s corkscrew. I was tempted to buy a half-case, but do I really need six more corkscrews in my kitchen drawer?

Tasting Notes and Food Pairing

The 2015 Bodegas LAN Reserva is all about soft cherry notes. Other flavors add to the mix of elegance. This a fine dinner wine that is delicious. The finish is long and lingering. At the LAN Website we learn that the wine is 92% Tempranillo, and the rest is the Mazuelo grape. The LAN Reserva aging: 18 months in hybrid barrels of French and American oak. Then comes 21 months in the bottle before the release date. It is rather amazing that Spanish wineries can offer such long aging, and price the wine this low.

With the added barrel and bottle aging comes a beautifully-balanced red wine, ready to drink and enjoy now. If you are a Whole Foods shopper, look for the LAN Reserva in the wine department. Next, go to the butcher counter and see if they have Hanger Steak. Hanger steak on the grill with the LAN, and life cannot get much better! Other red meats will also pair beautifully with the LAN.

I rate the Bodegas Lan Reserva at 90 points. Other ratings include: James Suckling 91 Points, Guia Penin 91 Points, Tim Atkin 93 Points, and the Wine Spectator 88 Points.
