Amador County Barbera – 2014 Terra d’ Oro Barbera

Two Amador Barbera wines at Nob Hill Grocery

Amador County Barbera Wine

The Amador County wine region has long been known for its outstanding Zinfandel. Barbera from Amador takes a backseat to Zin from Amador, but that should not be the case. Amador is just about the best place to grow Barbera grapes outside of Piemonte, Italy. I was in Amador County this August and tasted several incredible Barbera wines. Recently, I found two Amador Barbera wines at the Nob Hill Grocery store in Redwood Shores. Last evening, it was the Terra d’ Or0 that we paired with a pizza. We will give the Sobon Barbera a try soon. We shall see how the two Barbera wines compare.

2014 Terra d’ Oro Barbera – $11.99

Terra d’ Oro winery is owned by the Trinchero Family, the family who made White Zinfandel famous back in the 1980’s. They own several wineries in the Napa Valley. The Trinchero Family does a top-notch job with their wines. This Barbera wine is no exception. At the Nob Hill grocery store, I paid $11.99 for the Terra d’ Oro Barbera. To get this price I had to buy six wines, match-or-mix. I rate the 2013 Terra d’Oro Barbera at 89 Points. Its friendly balance and character make it a great choice with many dishes.
