Zaca Mesa Chardonnay – $9

Zaca Mesa Chardonnay $9 – Santa Ynez Valley AVA

It’s been quite some time since I have found a wine at BevMo that I could recommend. It seems that BevMo continues to stock the same obscure labels for their sale wines. I also heard rumors that Total Wines is negotiating a buy-out of BevMo stores. Hmmm!  Right now at BevMo, the Zaca Mesa Chardonnay is part of the 5 Cent Sale. When you buy two, the cost of the Zaca Mesa Chardonnay 2012 works out to $9 a bottle. According to Wine-Searcher.com, the average price of the Zaca Mesa Chardonnay 2012 is $16 to $18. This is a tasty Chardonnay and the best way to describe it is clean, bright, and refreshing. It does have some moderate oak but nothing that overpowers. The fruitiness of the Chardonnay grape shines through in this wine. It’s a great deal at $9 a bottle. My local BevMo had about a case left of the Zaca Mesa Chardonnay 2012. I stopped in at another BevMo in San Mateo and they only had the 2011 Chardonnay from Zaca Mesa. I did not try it, but I think that vintage should be okay and tasty as well.

Zaca Mesa is one of my favorite wineries to visit in the Santa Barbara wine country. It is located in the Santa Ynez Valley on Foxen Canyon Road, along with several other good wineries. Zaca Mesa makes several varietals, and I am very fond of their Syrah and a beautifully-made 100% Rousanne white wine. I recently read that the owner has put the winery up for sale for $32 million. If sold, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the winery continues making the same great wines.  I am rating the Zaca Mesa Chardonnay at 89 Points. I went back to buy more to have on stock for my next backyard get-together.
