About the Morse Mourvedre Bargain
Vintage Wine Taster Mike reviewed the Morse Mourvedre 2008 in Wine Values & Bargains in February. Mike rated the wine at 90 points and at that time the Safeway was selling this wine for $11. I have also tried the wine and I weigh in at 88 points. The wine is 80% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah, all from Amador County.
Now here is the kicker. The Burlingame Safeway recently received 20 cases of this wine and is blowing it out for $9.99 a bottle, or $9 if you buy six or more. My recommendation is this. If you live in or close to the Burlingame Safeway, buy a bottle and try it with a meat dish like lamb or poultry. If you like it, dash back and buy more. If you live far from the Safeway, take a weekend drive to the Burlingame Safeway and buy one bottle. Take it out to the parking lot, pop the cork and give it a try. If you like it, head back in and buy more. This wine is mellow with soft tannins and balanced flavors. The aftertaste is generous and enticing. Realize that this is a Mourvedre wine and not wine in the style of big Cabernet or Zinfandel. If you are a big, bold, and fruit-forward wine drinker, this wine is probably not for your palate. At this price, I would imagine that the wine will sell out within the next couple of weeks or less.
Have a terrific 4th of July Weekend.
