Condado De Haza at Costco for $17.99. By Spanish Vintner Alejandro Fernandez

2014 Condado De Haza

The 2014 Condado De Haza Crianza Tempranillo is a high-quality wine.  The Foster City Costco Price of $17.99 is a fantastic wine value. It’s been aged for 18 months in American Oak, and more than likely cellared half a year plus in the bottle before its release. Can you get a bottle of California red wine for under $20 with those aging factors? I know of none.

The 2014 Condado De Haza is a young wine, so let it breathe for an hour or decant the wine. It will open and gain character. The 100% Tempranillo Condado is delicious throughout.  We get loads of dark fruit, blueberry and blackberry, on the palate. The finish is outstanding.  The balanced acidity, tannin structure and medium body make it a food-friendly wine. I love this wine for anything on the barbeque. Sipping a glass of the Condado while tending to the grill seems to be the right thing to do.

Wine critic James Suckling, who charges $145 for a yearly subscription to his wine reports and reviews, rates the Condado De Haza a very healthy 93 Points. I go with 90 points. I have been back to Costco for a few more bottles. It will keep for a few years in the wine cellar, aging very gracefully.
