Fritz 2014 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel  – A  Steal at $8

A Mike B discovery

Fritz 2014 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel from Sonoma County is at many Grocery Outlet stores selling for $8. Suggested retail is $21.  The Wine House in San Francisco, a reputable wine retailer in the Dog Patch district, has the wine selling for $18. It will go fast once the Grocery Outlet wine sleuths discover this wine. Cases will fly out the door at $8 for a delicious wine. As I know today, it’s sold out in Pacifica and Redwood City Grocery Outlet stores. Maybe some is left at Van Ness in San Francisco where I purchased the wine. Call your local Grocery Outlet to see if they have any left.

I love this medium-to-full bodied Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.  The Fritz Dry Creek Zin offers a plump mouthful of typical blackberry and raspberry fruit. It is not overripe one bit. The balance of tannins and fruit make this wine an outstanding buy. My score is 90 for price and quality.

I checked the Fritz Underground Winery Website and the 2014 Dry Creek Zinfandel is not listed. I can only ascertain that Fritz unloaded the wine to make room for the 2015 Dry Creek Zinfandel vintage. Remember, the 2014 vintage was outstanding up and down California wine country.

The Fritz winery has been in operation since the late 1970’s and has estate vineyards. My guess is this wine is all estate fruit. Fritz has a fantastic underground winery operation. The winery looks small from a distance, but that is because most of the winery is underground.
