2016 Delas Saint-Esprit Côtes du Rhône

  • It has been awhile since we posted wine recommendations, seven weeks in fact. It’s not that we stopped buying wine or gave up drinking wine. It is because we all have been very busy with other activities and concerns. It’s time to get back to basics.
  • We are back with a review by Vintage Wine Taster Mike on a very moderate and lovely red wine from the Rhone region.
  • A zippy white wine perfect for the summer season.

2016 Delas Saint-Esprit Côtes-du-Rhône

Wines from the Southern Rhone region in France are some of the best wine bargains available. The Delas Saint-Esprit wine is a year-after-year a fantastic value.  The Delas 2016 has a dark cherry color with a youthful purple center. The nose has fresh berries and a touch of earthy bramble. The Delas is moderate in style and very well balanced. The tannins are nicely developed in this Cotes-Du-Rhone allowing one to drink the wine now or hold for the next few years.  2016 Delas Saint-Esprit is a blend of 60% Syrah, 40% Grenache. I love this wine with grilled veggies and grilled chicken.

Decanter Magazine ranks it at 95 Points.  Robert Parker calls it a “screaming value.” Here is the deal. it is only $9.99 at KL Wines.

2016 Matua Sauvignon Blanc

2016 Matua Sauvignon Blanc is number 40 on Wine Spectator Top 100

2016 Matua Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough

Just in time for summer fun is this energetic Sauvignon Blanc. It is the 2016 Matua Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough. We mentioned the Matau in a previous article regarding Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines 2017. The Matua is number 40 on the WS list. Costco’s Foster City has a large supply of wine for $7.99. That tops the Safeway’s six-pack price of $8.99 a bottle. Wine.com has it for $13.99. It is a zesty and refreshing white wine perfect for a summer evening aperitif.

Note: The Matua S.B has a thermographic label. When the temperature hits 45 degrees, the Maori face tattoo darkens.  Very cool!
